Why get married?

Meet the e-lopers, Geoff and Kiran

... a couple of travel nuts who traveled across 6 continents for 1 year to find out why people get married. To experience the wedding rituals ourselves, we researched local customs while staying in and getting to know a local community, and then asked the community members to marry us in their traditional way.

Learn about ancient wedding customs from around the world here. Sorry, you won't find information about foreign wedding legalities or how to elope overseas on this website.

Find out more About Us.

Where have we been? It's all on this Route map.

Our story in print

We're slowly but surely turning our 365-day journey overseas into a travel novel entitled A Year and A Day. We'll let you know here first about its progress. Until then, check out our travel blogs.

Marriage
Wedding rituals and cultural traditions

Why should we get married? We explore ceremonies around the world for insight. Communities are strengthened by the ritual of marriage, and every culture has a form of wedding ceremony. There are common values shared across cultures, at opposite sides of the globe. Our final wedding ceremony was the answer to our original question, made up of our favorite e-lopers moments and shared with friends and family in Canada.
